Create a simpler new-user experience for the world outline.
You enter through the website. First time, you're asked for username and password. When you correctly enter them, you get a big button that says Open My Outline. When you click it, the OPML Editor comes to front, showing you a new outline, with three buttons, Save, RSS+ and View. A new item has been opened that says My first note. There's an open headline underneath it with a text cursor waiting for you to enter something.
When you Save then View you see a one element outline that links to your note. Click the link to read it.
A heuristic determines whether it's just a paragraph or the title of a new note. That heuristic can be overridden by choosing a command from the right-click menu which toggles between Note and Text.
So when your list crowds up and you want to make categories out of things, you can.
That's the challenge. To make it from a simple list to a structured site.
There's a checkbox on the page with the big Open My Outline button that says "Check this box to escape Newbie mode." When you do that, you're redirected to the Roots page. It shows a single root, the one you've been working in up till now. And you see a big New Root button. There's a checkbox below that that says "Check this box to return to Newbie mode."
