Worldoutline buttons

  • If you look at the top of every worldoutline-editing window there's an array of buttons. Save, Title, Archive, RSS+, Blorkmark and View.
  • I'm taking three of them out: Title, Archive and Blorkmark. They are infrequently used, and all are available in the menus.
  • And I've added a button called New Post, which creates a new thread node. I figure this is the nodetype that a beginning user will find most useful. And the type it creates is something you can change, at this address:
    • user.opmlEditor.worldOutline.prefs.newPostType
  • The goal is to simplify the software, so that more people can use it with less chance of making mistakes.
  • And if you really like these buttons I'm going to show you a way to get them back with a feature you probably don't know about, that's much more powerful than the three buttons that are now gone.
  • Adding your own button scripts
    • This feature went in on September 4, 2012.
    • There's a table at user.opmlEditor.worldOutline.buttons that can contain scripts. When you open a worldoutline editing window, any scripts in this table are added at the end of the window's button bar.

    • The buttons that were removed were placed in a new table, opmlEditor.worldOutline.buttons.oldbuttons.
  • Rules
    • One of my basic programming rules is that you never take features out. And like all rules, this one was meant to be broken. But only on rare occasions.
